July 2010
Dear Friends and Family-
I hope this finds you all well. I have exciting news! I have been offered a position on a wonderful medical mission to go back and work in Haiti. Mustard Seed Missions, a local organization including doctors, nurses, and laypeople, has been traveling to the south of Port au Prince to provide medical care and community service for 10 years. They have an established medical clinic in a small city called Les Cayes and hope to set up a new clinic near the coast this fall. I have joined their 13 person team to work from October 13- 20. We will be serving hundreds of Haitians who are only able to receive healthcare a couple times per year. I am very excited to be part of
this group, hoping to learn alot, as well as contribute a lot. Hopefully my creole studies with my friend Lionel Romain will pay off!
Even more exciting news! From October 20-November 3, Milo will be joining me! We will work together with team members from Massachusetts for another volunteer organization called Partners in Development. This group runs a child sponsorship program, a year round medical clinic, as well as a number of ongoing construction projects in efforts to rebuild after the earthquake. We will be located in Blanchard, right outside of Port au Prince. This will be the second time Milo and I have done a service trip together and we are really looking forward to working together in Haiti. Apparently we will actually have a day off per week and can do some travelling and visit the beach!
Of course, we travel as volunteers to work in Haiti, taking time off from our jobs and regular lives. We have to pay our own airfare, roughly $400 each, as well as expenses which include food, housing and travel, about $1500 total for the both of us. These funds will go directly to each of these organizations for staff and volunteer needs, as well as keeping these programs running. So it is with great gratitude that we ask our generous friends and family again to contribute to our efforts in helping Haiti. I remain committed to assisting those who live in poverty, homelessness, and without access to adequate healthcare. My last trip was an amazing outpouring of generosity and support, so please contribute in whatever way you can.
There are at least two ways you can support our efforts. Please make a tax deductible contribution to www.mustardseedmissions.org in my name. Please do not put my name on the check, but rather on a post-it attached, or on the envelope. To support our trip with Partners in
Development, www.pidonline, please send funds to me and/or Milo directly at 625 Spring St, Leeds Mass. 01053 to cover our costs. We encourage you to check out these great organizations via their websites. Thank you SO MUCH for all your continued love and support, allowing us to help Haiti and her people. We also hope to put together a fundraiser later this summer and will keep you posted.
So much love to all of you, -Alison (and Milo)
