Alison Childs, R.N., Volunteers in Haiti as Part of Disaster Relief
Alison Childs is a Registered Nurse with over thirteen years of experience who is employed at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Alison first responded to the need for medical care in Haiti following the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010, working on a volunteer basis at the St. Damien's Hospital outside of Port au Prince as part of the disaster relief effort. St. Damien's Hospital is the only free pediatric hospital in Haiti (http://www.directrelief.org/WhereWeWork/Haiti/StDamienHospital.aspx), and is affiliated with Our Little Brothers and Sisters Orphanage (www.olbs911.org).
In October of 2010, Alison forged a connection with Partners in Development (http://www.pidonline.org). She also volunteered at the new adult hospital, St. Luc's (affiliated with St. Damien), which was born out of necessity following the earthquake. In January of 2011, Alison returned again to work with cholera patients at St. Luc's.
Alison serves on the medical advisory board for Partners In Development and is one of three clinic coordinators for their medical clinic in Blanchard, Haiti. She was on site in the clinic in June and October of 2011, January of 2012 and plans to return in April 2012. None of this is possible without individual support and donations-- make a donation online at http://www.pidonline.org- just write "Alison Childs" in the memo.
The most frequent updates, including Alison's accounts of her time in Haiti, will be posted on this website in the section titled "Latest News."
